When Phi Delta Psi organized in 1903, a
clubhouse was built in the neo-Colonial Georgian revival style to resemble an English
gatehouse. It was planned to have the main entry road pass under the house, but Vesta
Cassedy realized that the symbolic implications of this placement might
cause resentment in the other students. If the road had been brought under the
Delta house, it would have necessitated a move of both the Alpha and Theta clubhouses (even
though this move was never made, the artists moved them on color drawings that
appeared in the annual catalog, and never corrected the mistake!) |
