In 1903, Theta Sigma Rho was formed and a sorority
house built. Like many of the other sorority clubhouses, the inspiration came from the 1893 Columbian Exposition.
A
type of house was shown there in the Californian exhibit that had its
origins in the Spanish mission, like the one in Santa Barbera. When the Theta
house was built, this may have been the first example of the mission style in
the Washington area, so it has architectural significance. However, the original
lines of the house were altered significantly to make it suitable for WRAMC officer housing. |
